Listen, we know you’re getting a lot of these messages today. And, chances are, you’re ignoring a lot of them, too.
So, here’s the thing. We are truly grateful for this day. One where we, the nonprofits of the world, have a chance to remind you that the reason we exist is because of your support!
But you know what else we’re grateful for? Well, Jon Stewart.
This year, in a debate with Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks (who was great on our podcast, in case you missed her!), Stewart said, “I can’t figure out how $850 billion to a department means that the rank and file still have to be on food stamps. To me, that’s f***ing corruption.”
The comments came after Things That Go Boom’s expose on food insecurity in the military was shared with Stewart’s team. And while we’re absolutely not the only ones covering these issues, well, we’re one of very few.
Most reporting on defense and national security is funded by the defense industry itself. Inkstick is funded by you. Which allows us to dig deeper into corruption, ask tougher questions, and challenge authority on the national and global security issues so many outlets miss.
So if you’re not burned out on Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and every other ask in your inbox. Please, do consider supporting our work. Everything we do (including this Substack!) is free to you, but it’s not free to produce.
Help us keep it that way, because the world needs more reporting like this.
Happy Giving Tuesday. And Happy Birthday, Jon Stewart!
Thanks for all you do today and every day.
